Bruce Johnson

Bruce Johnson, 77, passed away January 25, 2014 in Pueblo, Colorado. The son of Stanley Carl and Gwendolen (Gaw) Johnson, he was born on April 23, 1936 in Helena, Montana. At the age of 4, his family moved to Butte, MT, and then to Denver, CO when he was in the 9th grade. Bruce graduated from Denver East High in 1954, and then attended Brown University graduating with the class of 1958. He was accepted at Colorado University Law School in Boulder, and received his Juris Doctorate in 1961. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi. Bruce began his career with Coit and Walberg in Denver where he met his wife, Joelene Martin and they were married on September 12, 1964. Desiring a small town life, Bruce accepted a position as Deputy District Attorney and they moved to Canon City in December 1964. He served this position until 1967 when he joined the law office of Fredrickson, Schalow and Johnson, which later became Fredrickson & Johnson P.C. Bruce retired in 2006 after 45 years of service. During his career, Bruce also served as Attorney for the City of Florence, Fremont County, Canon City Area Fire Protection District, Lincoln Park Sanitation District, St. Joseph Hospital Sisters of Charity, Fremont Board of Realtors, St. Scholastic Academy, and the American Hospital Association. He served on the Colorado Judicial Nominating Committee, and Shadow Hills Board of Directors. Bruce was a member of the Cherry Hills Golf Club, Shadow Hills Golf Club, National Advising Council,, Christ Episcopal Church, the American Bar Assoc., Fremont Bar Assoc., Colorado Bar Assoc., BPOE Elks Lodge #610, and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Joelene M. Johnson; sons, Erik M. Johnson and Scott (Kelley) Johnson; grandchildren, Josh (Keara) Johnson, Clint Johnson, Ben Kimmick, Morgan and Mary Beth Patrick, and Vivian Johnson; brother, William S. (Marcia) Johnson; nieces, Carol (Jim) Norton and Jill (Paul) Moreno; and several other great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Canon City, CO. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Sangre de Cristo Hospice at 601 Greenwood Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home.
