Frances Kern(1918 - 2014)

Frances Marie Kern passed away peacefully July 6, 2014 in Canon City, Colorado. Frances was born in Walsenburg, Colorado to Martin and Mary Videtich on June 13, 1918. She was united in marriage on May 24, 1941 to Floyd Kern who preceded her in death on October 29, 2009. Frances taught school in Walsenburg, Pueblo, and Canon City, Colorado for 49 years. She enjoyed dancing and in her younger years, Frances and Floyd traveled throughout Colorado and Kansas, doing exhibition dancing. Their favorite dance was the polka. Frances was a member of PERA and was nominated as Teacher of the Year. She also was a member of St. Michael Parish. Frances is survived by her son, Jim (Laura) Kern; daughter, Sherri (Bob) Macklin; grandchildren, Carissa, Blake (Alison), Noel, Dusty (Jenny) Macklin, and Lindsey Kern; great grandsons, Benjamin Macklin and Sam Macklin; and granddaughters, Lillia Macklin and Kaylee Hall. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anne Burtis and Mary Lesser; and brother, Martin Videtich. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Canon City, CO with Father Canice Chinyeaka Enyiaka as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington Elementary School PTO at 9th and College, Canon City, CO, 81212.
