Gyleth Shields

Gyleth G. Shields, 89, passed away January 30, 2014 in Canon City, CO. She was born in Kiowa, CO on July 14, 1924 to Robert and Emma (Woodard) Gilbert. Gyleth was united in marriage to Arthur Shields, who was in the U.S. Navy. After Arthur's retirement, they moved to Colorado in 1965. Then in 1966, they settled in Canon City. Gyleth was a member of the Lincoln Park Church of the Nazarene. She was the head of the J.C. Penney Catalog Department for 16 years, and volunteered with Loaves & Fishes and Meals on Wheels. In her younger years, she loved bowling. Gyleth is survived by her children, Virginia Ann "Ginger" Nownes, Robert Arthur Shields, Barbara Jean Willis, and Jeri Lynne Brace; grandchildren, Lawrance Claus, Jared Nownes, Vanessa Shields, Cassandra Casablanca, Alexander Konzelman, and Christopher Wilcox; great grandchildren, Damien Claus, Kalean Claus, Joshua Nownes, Madison Nownes, Bryson Shields, and Lyra Wilcox; and siblings, Nadene Williams, Robert Gilbert, Swede Gilbert, and Donald Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Gilbert in 1996; and her husband, Arthur in 1999. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Holt Family Funeral Home at 806 Macon Avenue in Canon City. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February, 6, 2014 at the Lincoln Park Church of the Nazarene at 1301 McKinley in Canon City. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home.
