Helen Harding-Mather

Helen V. Harding-Mather accepted the hand of her Lord April 21, 2014 with family at her side. She was born November 17, 1926 to Axel & Grace Borg in Lynch, Nebraska. She married Gerold Harding in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1988. After moving to Cañon City, she later met and married Melvin (Pappa Bud) Mather. He preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her sons, Gary Harding, Kennis (Reggie) Harding, Don (Cindy) Harding, Karen Harding; her precious pets, Scooter and Missy; her brother, Ron (Barb) Borg of Prosser, Washington; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Helen was lovingly known by all as "Grambo." As most know, she went skydiving for her 80th birthday. She was a "dyed in the wool" Broncos, Rockies and Cornhuskers fan. She was a champion horseshoe player and bowled in state tournaments. She loved gardening, making jelly and canning food that she grew in her yard for her family every year. We will all miss that! She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's radiator shop in Prosser, Washington and was also employed at the Prosser Research Lab and Virginia's Gift Shop at Knott's Berry Farm. Volunteering for the Cañon City VFW, Elks Lodge #610 and the Florence Senior Center (Play ball!!!) were things she also enjoyed. She was preceded in death by husbands, Gerold Harding and Melvin Mather; her parents; brothers, Russell, Don and Dwayne; sister, La Verne; son, Denny; and grandson, Jason. A celebration of life will be held at the Vineyard Church May 10th, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a reception at the Elks Lodge #610 in Cañon City. Helen (Grambo) will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege to know her and special friends, Bob and Sharon Schemerhorn whom she "adopted" and life-saving friend, Julie Engelbert. Cremation handled through The Neptune Society.
