Irma Fry

Irma was born July 4, 1909 to Charles C. and Eulalie (Nicholson) Moorhead in Hayden, New Mexico. The family moved to Florence, Colorado in 1923, and she graduated from Florence High School in 1928. Irma worked for Florence Auto Company as a bookkeeper for six years. Irma married Edwin Fry in 1934 and moved to Cripple Creek. She lived there for 22 years until they moved their business to Canon City in 1957. She worked as bookkeeper until the business was sold in 1968 to Portec, Inc. Irma was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and was active in the Altar Guild and St. Gabriel's Guild. She was a 50 year member of Gold Nugget Order of Easter Star, and a 50 years member of Chapter FC P.E.O. For 14 years she kept books for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and being with her family. Irma lived in her own home until she was 102, and then moved to Skyline Ridge nursing Home until her death. Mrs. Fry is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Dave) Blackhurst; grandchildren, Lea (Kevin) Bush, Shelly (Mark) Godfrey, Allen (Kristi) Blackhurst, Mary (Chris) Herbert, and Jennifer Taylor; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Nelson Moorhead; and sister, Mary Belle Coulter. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, and one sister. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel at 1449 S. 9th Street in Canon City. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
