Juanita Acton

Juanita "Nita" Jane (Lewis) Acton, 67, of Canon City, CO passed away on February 25, 2014 in Canon City, CO. Juanita was born in Canon City, CO to Wilbur Earl and Verdie Zeanna Mae (Carter) Lewis on February 24, 1947. As a child, she went to school in Rockvale, CO, and graduated from the Florence High School in 1965 as the class Salutatorian. She married Ivan Curtis Acton II on August 27, 1966 at the Church of Christ in Canon City, CO. She worked as an insurance agent and office manager for American Family Insurance for thirty-three years and retired in February 2012. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, and she held her grandchildren near-and-dear to her heart; they meant everything to her world. She was extremely supportive of her family, friends, and her grandchildren in their 4-H projects and activities; especially day fishing trips with her family. She had an effervescent personality that quickly made any soul that she came into contact with her friend; everyone, young and old, called her "Mom". Juanita was an original, lifelong, diehard Denver Broncos fan - win or lose, and she enjoyed watching Broncos games with her family and friends. Juanita is survived by her husband, Curtis Acton; children, Barry (Kathy) Acton and Julie (Joe) Gilbert; granddaughters, Mandee, Tricia, and Mellannei Acton, and Heather (Justin) Skerjanec; brother, Earl (Edith) Lewis; sisters, Wilma (Max) Munson, Geneva (Bobby) Garoutte, Lola Davies, and Vera (Jim) Kite; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Verdie; brother, Paul Lewis; sister, Zelpha Mae Brassea; and grandson, Joey Gilbert. The family of Juanita wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the administration and staff of Valley View Health Care Center for the special and kind treatment they provided us and Mom.
