Nita Alice Leonard

Nita Alice Leonard, 65, was promoted to Heaven January 29, 2013 in Canon City, Colorado. She passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 12, 1947 in Portland, Oregon to William "Bill" and P. Ruth (Stoute) Tilley. She graduated salutatorian in 1965 from Florence High School. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she made All State Choir and continued to use that gift to glorify her Lord throughout her life. On February 14, 1966, Nita married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Dean Leonard, at First Baptist Church in Florence, Colorado. Fulfilling her dream, she was a stay at home mom for her 4 boys and later helped Ken as needed at New Method Laundry until their retirement. Nita is survived by her husband, Ken; children, James "Jim" Leonard, Benjamin "Benj" (Lori) Leonard, Brian Leonard of Canon City, and Michael "Mickey" (Mindi) Leonard of Loveland, Colorado; and grandchildren, Stephan, Antje, Michael, Bethany, Greg, Azirae, Chase, Tyler, Brendan, Joshua, Chandra, Rebecca, Ashlyn, Makayla, and Katelyn; great grandchildren, Aidyl, Violet, Aiden, Kennedy, Tanner, and Kamrynn. She is also survived by brothers, Frank (Betty) Tilley and Larry (Nancy) Tilley, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Ben. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Evangelical Free Church in Canon City, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Orchard of Hope Foundation at 111 Orchard Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212, or Sangre de Cristo Hospice - West at 601 Greenwood Ave., Canon City, CO 81212.
