Robert Loy Helm

Robert Loy Helm, 87, passed away April 1, 2013 in Canon City, CO. He was born on October 8, 1925 in Hale County, Texas to James H. and Dorothy (Foley) Helm. Growing up in Texas, Robert graduated from Plainview High School, and attended Business College. In 1945, Robert moved to Canon City to work for his brother, Travis Helm at Helm's Drug Store. He then attended Pharmacy College in Denver, earning a pharmacist degree. In 1951, Robert and his brother James Helm Jr., bought Helm's Drug Store from Travis, and managed it until his retirement in 1987. On August 25, 1946, Robert was united in marriage to Mary B. Hartless; together they shared 66 wonderful years. Robert was a member of the Church of Christ in Canon City. He also belonged to the Canon City Lions Club, Odd Fellows (IOOF), and the Canon City Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed vacationing at his acre on Cottonwood Creek in Coaldale, CO; and spending time with his family and friends. Robert was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed. Mr. Helm is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Ronald R. Helm of Seattle, WA and Crecia Baker of Odgen, UT; grandchildren, Jason Helm, Jonathan Baker, Jeremy Baker, Annie Baker, Brandi Watkins, and Aimee Watkins; great grandson, Braylon; and sons-in-law, Larry Watkins and John Baker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri Helm-Watkins; his parents; brothers, Travis Helm and James Helm; and sister, Charllotte Helm-Kinser. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Holt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Church of Christ at 18th & Franklin in Canon City, with Pastor Randy Foshee officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mountain States Children's Home at 14780 N. 107th Street, Longmont, CO 80504. Arrangements handled through Holt Family Funeral Home.
