Lucille Salvi

Obituary Condolences

Former Florence resident Lucille Salvi passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 12, 2013 in Eagle, ID. She was 88. Lucille was born on March 6, 1925 to Joseph and Mary Mazzocco in Oakview, CO. Her father worked in the coal fields of southern Colorado when she was young, but he spent most of his career at the cement plant in Portland, CO. The family moved to Florence, CO where Lucille attended school. After graduation, she worked in Denver at the National Jewish Hospital, and later on she worked at the army base in Fort Carson, CO. On November 26, 1947 she married Charles Salvi in Florence. Charles worked for his uncles in Fremont County at the Fabrizio Brothers Coca-Cola bottling plant. While they lived in Florence, their first son, Ed, was born in 1950. Also, in 1950, the Frabrizio Brothers dropped the bottling plant part of their business so that they could focus on their Coors Beer distributorship, which they had received in 1933. When his uncles wanted to expand their territory into Chaffee County, Charles and Lucille moved to Salida in 1953, where he opened a branch warehouse. Their second son, Dave, was born in Florence during the time the family was making the transition to Salida. Lucille excelled as a mother and homemaker and devoted herself to those responsibilities while the boys were at home. She always was involved in their activities and volunteered her time to support them. After the boys left home, she spent more time volunteering. She was a Pink Lady at the Salida Hospital, and she frequently volunteered at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. After the death of Charles in 2000, Lucille moved to Eagle, ID to be nearer Ed and his family. She moved to Lewistown, MT in 2004, where Dave lives. In June of 2011, she returned to Eagle and entered an assisted living facility, which is where she was at the time of her death. Lucille was an intelligent and interesting person. She loved reading and keeping up with current events. She always had an informed opinion and enjoyed a good discussion about any number of topics. She loved her pets, even the ones not so easy to love. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, and two brothers Dominic and Tony Mazzocco. She is survived by sons Ed (Stacy) of Eagle, ID, and Dave of Lewistown, MT; grandchildren Matt (Cassie) Salvi of Kalispell, MT, Marie Salvi of Bozeman, MT, Mark Salvi of Portland, OR; and Kevin Salvi of Eagle, ID; a special nephew John Mazzocco of Tampa, FL ; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be buried in Canon City, CO at an undetermined future date. No funeral services will be held. Memorial gifts may be made to the local animal shelter or to the charity of your choice.
