Mary Gillespie Obituary
Mary Kathryn Spurck Gillespie, born December 13, 1946 to Leslie Spurck and Elda Duensing Spurck in Joplin, MO, died April 8, 2014 in Sonora, Texas as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident while traveling with her beloved husband Gill. Mary or "Mom" as she was known to her children and every other kid in town, dedicated her life to helping other; either as a caregiver, mentor, volunteer, or friend. On September 24, 1966 she married Warren (Gill/Thumper) Gillespie with whom she had four children. Mary and Gill moved to Colorado in 1968, ultimately settling in Canon City in 1986. Mary work in the food service industry most of her life, retiring from the CO Department of Corrections as a Support Services Supervisor. Mary volunteered her time with Starpoint, as a literacy volunteer and was a member of Zonta for over 30 years. Mary was an avid paper-crafter, a hobby that created more friendship than completed projects and she enjoyed her monthly book club, Wine, Women and Words. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Shawn and brother Stephen, grandson Cameron. Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years Gill; children Aaron (Alina) Gillespie of Spring, TX; Siobhan (Shawn) Burtlow of Buena Vista, CO; Adrian (Tamara) Gillespie of Canon City; sister Patricia (Ed) DeWitte; ten grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friend, and "kids" and the Night Owls Services to honor and celebrate Mary will be held in early June and will be announced when plans are finalized.
