Richard Reynolds Obituary
Richard Raymond "Curley" Reynolds, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Canon City on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. He was born on July 18, 1924 in Ranger, Texas to John Spurgeon and Jeanette Treda Reynolds. Curley graduated high school in 1942, and joined the U.S. Navy on Pearl Harbor Day that year. He was an electrician 3rd class and was designated Chaplain aboard the USS Corundum (supply ship). He was honorably discharged on Pearl Harbor Day 1945. After his discharge, he attended Texas A. & M., and studied electrical engineering. Curley was married to Josephine for 44 years, and to this union three sons were born, Charles, David, and Roger. They moved to Canon City in 1961, and Curley started Fremont Construction in 1962, later changing the name to Reynolds Construction. He spent 36 years in the construction business. In 1989, Curley married Phyllis Craven. He was a founding member of the Royal Gorge Chapter of the Veterans Motor Car Club of America (antique car club), and the Canon City Chapter of Homebuilders Association. He was a board member of the Fremont County Airport Advisory Board, and was on the board of directors at the Canon National Bank. Curley was member of the Lions Club, Boy Scout Master, and Christian Family Fellowship but attended church with Phyllis at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Some of his hobbies included beekeeping, archery, rock hounding, restoring antique cars and stamp collecting. He also raised grapes, and studied civil war history. For 28 years Curley met monthly with a group of friends to play poker in his annex building. Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife of 24 years, Phyllis; sons, Chuck (Sandy), David (Marion), and Roger; grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, Daniel, Zach, and Lydia; great grandchildren, Emily, Megan, and Owen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; and brothers, Charles Reynolds and Hutch Reynolds. Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Canon City, CO. Memorial donations may be made to Sangre De Cristo Hospice or First Christian Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the care of Holt Family Funeral Home.
