Meridith Burt Obituary
Meridith Grace Burt, 43, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away unexpectedly August 16, 2013, after a sudden illness.
She was born in Santa Ana, California, February 17, 1970, the daughter of James M. Burt and Pamela A. (Meritt) Burt.
Meridith attended both Northwestern and Kokomo Schools, participating in many sporting activities. In 1986 she transferred to Northrop High School, Fort Wayne, continuing her participation in sports and graduating in 1988.
Meridith attended Indiana University Bloomington on a softball scholarship, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Education.
She met her life partner, Timme Pullen in 1999 and they lived together in Canon City, Colorado and later moved to Terre Haute, Indiana and Lexington, Kentucky.
Meridith started her career in the Bureau of Prisons as a correctional officer and teacher at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Florence, Colorado. She was committed to developing and managing excellent educational programs in the FCC system and became Assistant Supervisor of Education at FCC Terre Haute. Most recently she had been promoted to Supervisor of Education at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington Kentucky in 2011.
Meridith was known for her outgoing personality and true warmth and compassion. All who knew and loved Meridith were blessed by her unforgettable smile, her sincere and generous spirit, and her gift to make people laugh. She had a charisma that could light up a room, was a cheerleader to all, and was adored by everyone that knew her. She was also an avid outdoor enthusiast who loved to camp and boat. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and animals.
Meridith is survived by her partner Timethea Pullen, Lexington, KY, her mother Pamela A. Burt, Kokomo, IN; her sister Carrie A. (Burt) Eaker (Todd Glass), Monticello, IN; brother Stephen Pullen (Emily), Tucson, AZ; her nieces and nephews, Ryan L. Eaker (Stephanie), Kyle M. Eaker, Courtney L. Eaker and fiancée, Paul Madden, Layne Pullen and Sophia Pullen; great nephew and great niece, Rylan Eaker and Kennedi Eaker; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, her paternal grandparents, Lowell and Edna Burt; her maternal grandparents, Olin and Julia Meritt, and two uncles.
Funeral services celebrating Meridith's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with Rev. Dr. P. Mark Hill officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Contributions can be made in Meridith's memory to the Kokomo Humane Society Building Fund or in honor of her late father to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
