James Foster Obituary
James "Jim" Immer Foster died March 28, 2013 after a long illness. He was born April 11, 1931 in Colorado Springs to the late William T. Foster and Christine I. Foster of Canon City. During Mr. Foster's youth, he participated in the Boy Scouts receiving high honors and the DeMolay organization of which he received the highest award of Degree of Chevalier. Mr. Foster graduated from Canon City High School in 1948 and received a scholarship to the College of Colorado School of Mines. He graduated in 1954 with a major in Geophysics. While attending college he was an honored member of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Scabbard and Blade, Blue Key, Theta Chi, M club and ROTC. Jim joined ROTC in high school and continued this program through college. Mr. Foster married Vera Ruth (Spitzer) Foster of Canon City in 1952. In 1954, Mr. Foster began his career with Chevron Oil Company, who gave him a leave of absence from 1955 to 1957 to complete his obligation to the US Army Corps. of Engineers. He received an honorable discharge in 1962 with the rank of 1ST Lieutenant. Mr. Foster retired from Chevron in the early 1990's. Among many of his titles with Chevron include, Senior Staff Geophysicist and Operations Manager-Chevron Overseas. Along with the many achievements accomplished by Mr. Foster, he was also an avid hunter, outdoorsman, fisherman and golfer. From the marriage to Vera Ruth Foster, Mr. Foster is survived by their three sons, William Thomas Foster III (Renate) of Alaska, James Immer Foster Jr. of Nevada, Mark Immer Foster (Julie) of California and four grandchildren; James Foster (Leslie), Annaliese Foster, William Foster and Kristal Foster. Mr. Foster was laid to rest on April 2nd at the Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs. He will be greatly missed.
