Barbara A. Murphy
age 87, of Canton, passed away peacefully in her home, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013. A life long resident of Canton, Barbara was a 1944 graduate of Lehman High School, continued for a short time at The Ohio State University and then earned her degree at the Cleveland School of Art. Barbara worked most of her life in the interior design field, most notably at R&J Furniture and with the O'Neils Company. She was a member of the IDS (Interior Design Society). Barbara was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and the Canton Preservation Society. She enjoyed water color painting, sewing, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center, was an avid animal lover and was a Rosie the Riveter during WWII.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Simcox; and her daughter-in-law, Diane M. Murphy. Survivors include her children, Scott Murphy, William (Lorraine) Murphy and Pam (Thomas) Alm; grandchildren, Heather, Sean, Shannon, Kaitlin, Ian and Michael; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Hospice Program. The family wishes to thank the Mercy Hospice Program and Caring Seniors for their compassion and care in the weeks prior to Barbara's passing. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with the Rev. David deVires officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
