Don C. LaHue

Don C. LaHue
87, of North Canton died peacefully at home surrounded by his adoring family on Jan. 19th, 2013 after a lengthy bout with cancer. He was a Lincoln High School graduate, class of '43 and earned his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Kent State University. In World War II, he served with the 21st Tank Battalion of the 10 Armored Division in Europe. After teaching in Hopedale, Ohio for two years, he served as a teacher and administrator in the North Canton Schools for 32 years. After retiring in 1984, he volunteered his services for more than 15 years to the TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly, sponsored by AARP and the IRS.) He was a life member of the Disabled Americans Veterans, the Stark County Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Don was preceded in death by infant daughter, Carol Jean; his mother, Hazel LaHue; his father and step mother, William O. and Bernice LaHue. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Marilyn (McKinnon) LaHue; daughter, Dr. Diane LaHue of Columbus, Ohio; sons and daughters-in- law, Dr. and Mrs. David and Christine (Menne) LaHue of Worthington, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Dan and Polly (Wolf) LaHue of Wadsworth, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda, Mark, Daniel and Annie LaHue of Worthington, Ohio, Phillip and Spencer LaHue of Wadsworth, Ohio; and step sister Mrs. Helen Sluss of Louisville, Ohio. Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. All of his family will miss his wit, words of wisdom and the love he shared in numerous, wonderfully written letters. A beautiful light has gone out of our family, but our memories will live on forever. A man with a truly generous heart, he was a friend to all who had the privilege to know him.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Ave. N.W) and on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 W. Tuscarawas St., Canton, Ohio 44702. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery in Canton.
