Donald Lee Newell
age 88, of Hartville passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Orma, W.Va. on September 27, 1924 to the late Gerald and Maude (Schartiger) Newell. Donald was a WW II Army Veteran, Staff Sergeant, who served in the 142nd Infantry Regiment and had received the Purple Heart. On April 2, 1948, Donald married Sylvia Boggs, a girl he knew since childhood. For 32 years, he worked for Teledyne Monarch in Hartville and retired in 1975. He always enjoyed farming, hunting small game, fishing in Canada, Lake Erie and our area lakes, carpentry and following sports.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Rush of Hartville; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lee Jr. and Susan Newell of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandsons, Gregory and Jason Newell of Lawrenceville, Ga.; siblings, Emogene Robinson and Harry Newell both of West Virginia, Ellodene Yerkey of Pennsylvania and Leon Newell of Brimfield, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his infant brother, Johnnie; and brothers Jerald Jr. and Harold.
Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home Hartville and an hour prior to services Friday 1-2 p.m. Services are Friday 2 p.m.at the funeral home with Pastor Anthony DiMarco officiating. Final resting place is Mount Peace Cemetery.
