Elizabeth "Betts" Madigan
passed away Feb. 21. Daughter of the late Floyd and Edna Dennis, she was born in Canton Feb. 23, 1923. She was preceded in death by her brother, William (Madeline) Dennis of Canton and sister, Maryella (Dale) Pettibon of Florida. Betts is survived by her loving daughters, Vicki (Don) Portch; and sons, Stephen and Mathew (Sally) Portch of Dallas, Suzy (Gary) Morgan and daughters, Molly (Aaron) Jacobs and Bonnie Morgan of Los Angeles, Patricia Madigan of Denver; and son, Michael (Linda) Madigan of Seattle. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Helen Magaw who was of great help to her in her later years; numerous nieces, nephews and cousin, Miriam Miller, all of Canton. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1941. Elizabeth's beautiful coloratura soprano voice was heard in schools, churches and opera circles, nationwide. She married a young Naval Officer, Thomas Madigan in 1943. As a Navy Wife, she made a wonderful home for her family.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to Canton Christian Home and staff for the kind and loving care Betts received during her residence there and especially to Pastor David Warren and members of First Southern Baptist Church of which she was a member. At the request of Betts, no memorial service will be held. May the memories of her be held in your heart.
