George D. Jones
Age 85, of Uniontown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Care Center following a long illness. He was born in Marion, Ohio on Sept. 26, 1927, to the late George and Angie (Owens) Jones. George served with the Merchant Marines during World War II where he served on several ships in the war effort, and made the 'Midnight Run to Murmansk'. He was a longtime employee of PPG Industries in the power department. George was an excellent athlete and a sought after partner for golf and bowling. He was also an avid Lake High School and Ohio State football fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff; five sisters, Katherine, Floreine, Rosemary, Virginia, and Jackie; three brothers, William, David and John; first wife, Delores.
George is survived by his wife, Patricia (Meyers) Jones; daughters, DeJane, Paty, Cassandra, Jenny, and Gretchen; grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Jesse, Ashley, Erica, Gabriel, Gillian, and Audrey; brother, Jimmy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Care Center for their kind and compassionate care given to George during his stay.
No calling hours or services are planned and burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Care Center (2308 Reno Dr., Louisville, OH 44641).
