Gregory Baines

Gregory Baines
of Canton, Ohio passed away Dec. 27, 2013 at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gregory was born May 21, 1948 at Mercy Medical Center to James and Thelma Baines.
He is survived by his fiancee, Rena J. Kane; stepdaughters, Christina Waide, Kristy Wagoner, and Susan (Brad) Miller; brother, Ed (Sharon) Baines of York, Pa; sisters, Karen (John) Ingram of Ray, Ohio, and Rebecca (Kevin) McCarty of Akron, Ohio. He is also survived by Denise (Joe) Roosh, whom he loved like a daughter and his 12 grandchildren. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, James Arthur Baines and mother, Thelma Laura (Gregory) Baines. Gregg was a fighter with a passion for life and living everyday to its fullest. At the young age of four, he contracted Polio and was told he would never walk again; but his will and determination were strong. After many surgeries and a tremendous amount of pain, he did walk again. At age 39, Gregg survived a nearly fatal car accident. Then at age 61, he was diagnosed with leukemia. After five months of aggressive chemo, he went into remission. He loved the outdoors: fishing, camping, and riding his Goldwing motorcycle with Rena by his side. One of his fondest memories was of a fishing trip to Canada that he took with his father. Gregg and his father, James, worked side-by-side for 21 years to build Sherwood Pattern and Plastics until his father passed away. Gregg was a volunteer firefighter from 1972 to 1987, and was employed at Ferriot, Inc. as an electrician until her took ill in October 2013.
At Gregg's request, there will be no services. He was not one to seek sympathy and wanted his life to be celebrated, not grieved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Akron Children's Hospital in his name. Gregg was loved by many and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
