John Hamilton Thompson
age 79 of Carrollton passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Aultman Hospital. He was born Nov. 30, 1932 to Wilber and Nellie (Francis) Thompson in Carrollton, Ohio. He was a welder by trade with the former Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Company in Canton, Ohio. He was married Feb. 2, 1973 to Yi Chin Sun 'Lee' who passed away Feb. 17, 2008. John belonged to the American Legion, VFW 3302 and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War serving 23 and a half years.
John's military career took him to many countries throughout Europe and Asia where he learned and spoke six different languages. During that time, he developed a love of photography, specifically that of European architecture. Later he would learn to develop and print his photos. While in Korea, he would meet and later marry Yi chin Sun 'Lee'. He took great pride in introducing her to American culture and making a comfortable life together with their dogs, Cindy and Brown.
Since relocating to the North Canton area nearly five years ago, John met and made friends with some special caregivers, Peg Nichols and Danelle Bennett. The family extends a heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Danbury in North Canton for their kind, caring ways and great food!
He is survived by a son Timothy R. Thompson; two daughters, Brenda L. Thompson and Theresa M. Merrill; and nine grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Frances J. Browning, Robert L. Thompson, James R. Thompson and Margaret A. Lawther.
Funeral service will be at the Allmon Dugger Cotton Funeral Home Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. and burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the Allmon Dugger Cotton Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Military services will be conducted by the V.F.W., D.A.V. and the American Legion.
