'Together Again'John S. Kassay
age 94, of Canton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was born Oct. 16, 1918 in Johnstown, Pa. to the late John and Julie Kassay. John served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre, primarily in India during World War II and while on a break he got to climb the Himalayans. He retired from T&A Safeway as a meat cutter. John was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he was an usher for many years and he donated his time at the Food Cupboard. By his expertise in gardening John spent many hours beautifying the grounds at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. In addition to gardening he enjoyed fishing, camping and cooking. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 44. John loved to watch baseball and was a New York Yankee fan. He was happiest when he was with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen of 64 years; sisters, Anne Medved and Sister Marie Kassay; brother, Michael Kassay.
John is survived by his daughter, Yolanda Kassay; grandchildren, Justin (Stephanie) Kassay Hart, Stephen Kassay Hart and Alicia Kassay Hart; beloved dogs, Lilly, Leo and Maddie.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4940 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, OH 44708 with Rev.
