Joseph E. Carr Sr.
age 91, of Canton passed Wednesday evening in the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born May 26, 1922 in Brewster to his parents the late Valentine and Barbara Carr. Joe graduated from Brewster High School. He enjoyed playing basketball and was a basketball team member winning the title of the Brewster All County Champs, as well as the All City Basketball Champs in Norfolk, Va. He was the owner and operator of J. E. Carr Co., Inc., an electrical engineering company. He severed his country during World War II in the U.S. Merchant Marines as a Lieutenant Commander. Joe was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, past president of the Avondale League. He was a private pilot who enjoyed flying his 182 Cessna Skyland aircraft.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by infant sons Jim and Gary; brother John and sister Ann Rypien. He is survived by sons, Joseph Carr, Jr. of Canton, Jack (Marsha) Carr of Grove City, Jeff (Theresa) Carr of Hartville, Doug (Becky) Carr; daughter, Denise (Dave) Klausner all of Canton; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Fr. Don King as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
