'Together Again'Mary Edith Bates
passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Nov. 20, 2013 in Louisville at the age of 93. She was born July 12, 1920 in Pine Grove, W.Va., the daughter of the late Willis and Addie (Ingram) Derby. She was known for her devotion to her family and great sense of humor. Mary was a member of Canton Temple Church of God. The greatest joy in her life was serving the Lord and spending time with her grandchildren and family. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, William Bates who passed away Nov. 6, 2004 following 66 years of marriage; two sons; sister, Doris Haught; and brother, Leroy Derby.
Mary is survived by four children, Ronald (Connie) Bates, Brenda (Richard) Fonte, Donna (David) Bender and Gregory (Sandy) Bates; sister, Ruth Bates; brother, Gene (Shirley) Derby; her 11 precious grandchildren, Melanie Saunders, Chris Fonte, Aaron Fonte, Elizabeth Bates, David Bates, Matt Bates, Tawnya Plaster, Amber Austin, Melissa Willis, Tim Bender and Amy Kidder; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home of Louisville with Pastor Richard Fonte and Pastor Dennis Hazen officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mary's family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
