Mary Florence Tibbs
went home to be with the Lord at the blessed age of 93. She was born in Ardmore, Tenn. on Nov. 10, 1920 to Harry Lee Garner Sr. and Ruth (Luter) Garner.
Both parents preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 65 years, Golden Tibbs; son, Melvin Tibbs; three brothers, John, Robert and Harry Jr. Garner; two sisters, Fannie Ruth Gholston and Beatrice Woody. To forever cherish her beloved memory, she is survived by her caring granddaughter, Melinda (Leon) Terrell; her great granddaughter, who she loved dearly, Valerie Terrell and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Mary graduated from McKinley High School and later attended Radel Business College. She worked briefly at the Timken Company and later as a household technician. She was a former member of Antioch Baptist Church, former active member of the Canton Urban League, past president of the Canton Household Technicians, representing them at conventions in New York, New Orleans and various cities. She enjoyed high teas and luncheons with her nieces. Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home.
