Mary (nee Holesa) Waskavitz
Age 100, died Sunday Dec. 15, 2013. She was born March 15, 1913 in Canton to her parents the late John and Zofia Holesa. Mary worked at the Timken Roller Bearing Company from the age of 16 until she married her husband, the late Donald Waskavitz in 1947. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Assembly 180 of Canton since 1922. Mary was active in track and field.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Waskavitz; son-in-law Blaine F. Snyder; sisters, Agnes Evanko, Sophie and Anna Holesa; brothers, Andrew J. and Tech. Sgt. John J. Holesa, brothers-in-law, John Evanko and Michael Seman; Nephews Andrew and John Evanko, Jr. Mary is survived by daughter, Cynthia Waskavitz Snyder of Seneca, S.C.; sister, Margaret Seman of Canton; daughter-in- law, Pamela (Robert) Waskavitz Traugh; nephew, Stephen (MaryAnne) Evanko, Sr. of North Canton; niece, Agnes Evanko of Canton; grandchildren, Aaron (Isabelle) Snyder of Knoxville, Tenn., Samantha (Gary) Waskavitz Gonzalez of Louisville, Adam (Susan) Waskavitz of North Augusta, S.C., Timothy Waskavitz of Fort Mill, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Benjamin and Kevin Snyder, Garrett and Wyatt Gonzalez and Milo Waskavitz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. G. David Weikart as celebrant. The funeral procession will form at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 5-7 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Home and Friday morning 9-10 a.m. at the church.
