Paul Richard Bortz
80, of Malvern, passed away Friday, April 30th, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital, following a long illness.
Paul was born in Canton, OH on February 5, 1930, the son of the late Clarence H. and Mae M. C. (Loehr) Bortz.
He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Malvern and a graduate of Malvern High School.
He was a dairy farmer for 60 years, and served his community in a variety of ways : 50 years as a Carroll County Republican Committeeman, 10 years on the Carroll County Board of Elections, serving as its current president as well as holding that position in the past. He spent 20 years on the Malvern Police Department, and 40 years as a Volunteer Fireman for both the Brown Township and Malvern Fire Departments. Paul served on the Board of Consumers National Bank for 25 years. He was the Past President of Carroll County Farm Bureau, a long time member of Magnolia and Alliance Town Bands, and a member of Brown Township 2054, Pomona, Carroll County and State Granges.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Bland) Bortz; a daughter, Paula R (Jason) Jefferys of Alliance; a step-son, Jeff E. Mohr of Malvern; grandchildren: Kyle Mohr of Pittsburgh, Cameron Mohr of Malvern, and Connor Mohr of Massillon.
He is preceded in death by a step-son Mark Mohr.
Funeral Services will be held at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, Malvern, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 with Rev. A. Wallace Anderson officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., at Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
