Ralph N. 'Pinky' Cooper
Age 88, of Sandyville, passed away Wednesday, June 5 in Hennis Care Center. Born in Canton, a son of the late Victor and Helen McAbee Cooper, he had been a Magnolia resident most of his life. Pinky was a 1943 graduate of Magnolia High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific. He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, the Atwood Yacht Club for over 50 years, Sandy Valley Eagles #3228, the Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta, and was a member and co-founder of the Tri-County Horse Association. Pinky retired from St. Regis Paper Co. after 30 years service where he was a Supervisor, and following retirement he drove school bus for 18 years for Tusky Valley High School. Preceded in death by a brother, Bill Cooper and a sister, Miriam Berry.
Survived by his wife, Mary Lou Cooper; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Harold Irwin and Sue and Bo Hysong, all of Magnolia, and Mary Beth and Jim Klick, of Navarre; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his good friend, Betty Cooper, of Magnolia; and close cousin, Sally Bartolett, of Canton.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church with Pastor John Maroni officiating. Full Military Honors will be held at the church.
