Richard E. Packa
of Hoover, Ala., formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the age of 86. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Pilias. He served as the President and CEO of the Golden Circle Credit Union in Canton, Ohio. In addition, he worked for the Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Canton. Mr. Packa was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Middlebranch, Ohio. He was named Volunteer of the Year by Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas and served as a vocational teacher.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marie C. Packa; and a son, Richard V. Packa. He is survived by two sons, Daniel Packa (Janet) of Lorton, Va. and Joseph Packa (Donna) of Hoover, Ala.; three daughters, Christine Maddy (Brian) of Pine Mountain, Ga., Roseanne Smith (George) of Columbus, Ohio, and Jennifer Carpenter Deject of Tega Cay, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Lamoreaux of Bradford, Pa.; one brother, Edward Packa of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, Ala. Funeral Mass will follow at the church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
