Gy. Sgt. Richard M. 'Gunny' Shott, USMC-Ret.
74, of Brewster, died unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Affinity Medical
Center in Massillon. He was born in Canton on May 10, 1938, to the late Ralph E. and Hazel (Steiner) Shott II. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp retiring in 1975 following 20 years of service. He earned the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He also retired from Indian River School following 20 years and from B.U.M.P. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Massillon, and the Brewster American Legion where he previously served as post commander.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; children: Michael (Debbie) Shott of Granada Hills, Calif., Patti Tennill of Manhattan, N.Y., Coral Arnold of Colorado, Debbie (Denny Brahler) Tennill of Canton, Larry (Michelle) Tennill of New Jersey, James Tennill of Brewster and Steven (Yolanda) Tennill of Hilliard; grandchildren: Alexandra, Chase and Dylan; a brother, Robert A. (Patricia) Shott, Sr. of Canton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph E. Shott, III.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 107 6th. St. S.W., Massillon, with Pastor Elaina Styblo officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 1:00 p.n. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Spidell Funeral Home, 209 Chestnut St. N.W., Brewster, or one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
