Robert E. Fortion
age 84, My Best Friend, passed away Tuesday morning. Born in Canton on Dec. 12, 1929 to the late Joseph and Rose Fortion, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Dallas, Irene and Joe Gonzalez, Mary and David Fernandez; brother, Joseph Fortune and nephew, Eugene Dallas. He was a graduate of Timken Vocational High School. An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict he served from June 4, 1951 to May 21, 1953 when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of St. Anthony/All Saints Catholic Parish, Holy Name Society of St. Anthony and the American Legion Post #44. He retired from the Canton City Street Department after 37 years of service and then went to work for Central Allied for 10 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Fortion; niece, Julie Fortune; nephew, Steve Fortune, great-niece, Denise (Dallas) Hessel; great- nephew, Eugene Dallas; four great-great-nieces, Ashli and Hailey Hessel, Madison and Ava Dallas; three step daughters, Linda and Mark Holbrook, Vickie and Sam LaPorte, Tammy and Allen Paynter, seven step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Marian Wiles.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 noon at St. Anthony/All Saints Catholic Parish with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop, celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
