'Doctor Sam' Abood
age 88 of Canton, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center with his family by his side. He was born in Canton on Aug. 23, 1924 to the late Namey and Hesen (Antoon) Abood. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice I. (Cunningham) Abood; son, Daryl N. Abood; sisters, Victoria, Julia, Edna, Katherine, Florence; and brothers, Edward and Ernest. He was a graduate of Lehman High School. He then continued at The Ohio State University, receiving his doctoral degree. Doctor Sam practiced general medicine in Canton for over 45 years and was recognized for his service at Aultman Hospital Medical Staff and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Canton Baptist Temple. He was an independent, active man, avid hiker and loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and his best friend, Tony Barcich. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Dale) Duren of Canton, Mary Abood of Florida, Darla (Tom) Keesee of Florida; son, Gary (Christy) Abood of Canton; five grandchildren, Zoe Duren, Kiley and Kenzie Keesee, Jordan and Jake Abood; sister-in-law, Diane Abood of Canton; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Canton Baptist Temple with services to follow at 1:30 p.m., Pastor Mike Frazier officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Doctor Sam's name may be made to the Canton Baptist Temple.
