Betty Delores Ebert Obituary
Betty Delores Ebert 1924-2017
of Canton passed away at home on April 16, 2017, with loved ones near. She was born in 1924 in Alliance, to the late Bernard and Golda Burnside. Preceded in death by husband, Henry; daughter, Marcia Ann; granddaughter, Angela Kindsvatter; and brothers, Carl and Richard Burnside.
Survived by daughters: Cheryl (John) Kindsvatter, Cynthia Ebert, Dawn (Larry) Worstell, and Christine (Phillip) Flench; as well as 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also survived by sister, Shirley (William) Allen; and many nephews and nieces. Betty was well-known in the community for her dedicated work on behalf of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Because of the gift of Marcia Ann in their lives, both she and Henry joined with other parents in the 1950s to begin the Council for Retarded Children of Stark County, Ohio. Betty actively participated in providing classes for children with special needs before any were available through public schools. After classes became part of the public school system she became a classroom assistant and respected educational partner with teachers and parents alike. Throughout her years she volunteered in church and the community, and received multiple awards for her civic involvement in Stark County. Having held a number of positions and responsibilities in The Arc of Stark County, she retired at 85 as an Advocate Specialist with The Arc. Caring for the least able members of our community was an issue of deep importance to her and she was a godsend and an inspiration to others. How we will miss her!
Please join us in a service of celebration of her life on June 24th., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4120 Cleveland Avenue N.W. The church will open at 10:00 a.m., the service will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Shepard Lutheran or The Arc of Ohio-Stark County would be gratefully appreciated.
