Carolyn Foradas Spilios 1924-2017
daughter of Michael Peter Foradas and Panayiota (Bertha) Foradas, was born on June 19, 1924 and passed on August 27, 2017. She was born and raised in Canton, Ohio and grew up on Broad Avenue. Carolyn attended Clarendon Elementary School and graduated from McKinley High School in 1944, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation from high school, Carolyn was employed in the offices of the Timken Roller Bearing Company. On Jan. 27, 1946, Carolyn married Anthony (Tony) Peter Spilios. Tony and Carolyn owned and operated Spilios Candy Company, manufacturers of Carolyn's Fine Candies.
Carolyn and Tony had two daughters, Patricia Ann (George) Demis and Sophia (Steve) Sheil. Carolyn was Yiayia to Carolyn (Kent) Turner, Lee (Beth) Demis, Stephen (Jane) Sheil, and Annette (Jon) Gregori. Carolyn's pride and joy were her seven great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Granyiayia, Andrew and Abigail Turner, Sam, Gus, and Luke Demis, and Allison and Jake Gregori.
Carolyn was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church and also a member of the Ladies' Philoptochos Society and the Silver Liners. Carolyn was a passionate member of the St. Haralambos Choir for sixty-five years.
Funeral services for Carolyn will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00, preceded by calling hours at 10:00. Reverand Father Basil Shaheen will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carolyn Spilios may be made to the St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church Preservation Fund.
