Chester J. “Chet” Heckathorn 1938-2017
78, of Brewster, passed away on September 10, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born on October 16, 1938, in Massillon Ohio to the late Chester and Lucille (Vogt) Heckathorn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Betty; a brother, Roy; sisters, Juanita Heckathorn, Corinne Kohl and Janet Nicholas. He retired from Republic Steel Corp. in 1998 with over 39 years of service. In later years, he worked part time for Brewster Cheese. He loved the Lord, his family and relaxing with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the Dover Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and loved target shooting. He also loved going to car shows with his wife and showing his 1951 Ford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Heckathorn; his sister, Eleanor Bocook of Brewster; his two sons, Michael (Brenda) Heckathorn of Brewster and Steve (Jennifer) Heckathorn of Dover; two daughters, Patricia (Edward) Harvey of Beach City and Pamela (Michael) Hamrick of Dover; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Spidell Funeral home in Brewster, with Randall Chapman and Steven Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Welty Cemetery near Brewster. Friends may call on Thursday from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family extends a special thanks to The Truman Hospice House.
