Christopher J. Gatien
age 40, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, due to a sudden illness at his residence in Willoughby, Ohio. Chris was born Dec. 30, 1976, in Canton, Ohio. He lived in Canton for most of his life.
He is survived by his parents, Richard J. Gatien and Sue A. Gatien of Canton, Ohio; a sister, Michelle (Andrew) Hotchkiss of Apex, N.C. Christ was very close to his two nieces, Elianna and Isabella; and his nephew, Noah, also of Apex, N.C. He is also survived by many relatives and cousins.
A 1995 graduate of GlenOak High School, he attended classes at The University of Cincinnati and obtained an Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Stark State College in 2005. He was awarded a “Lean/Six-Sigma Black Belt Certificate” from Kent State University upon completion of coursework in statistical process engineering in Jan. 2007. Chris was employed by Radix Wire Company in Euclid, Ohio a continuous improvement process engineer.
Chris enjoyed sports all of his life. ESPN was his favorite network. During his high school years, he was a member of the GlenOak baseball team, track team and cross country team. As a junior, he made the All-Stark County Cross-country Boys Division I Second Team. Chris was an avid golfer and was a very successful participant in many fantasy football leagues.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. for a memorial gathering Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Canton Garden Center, Stadium Park, 1615 Stadium Park Drive, Canton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chris' name to JDRF, N.E. Ohio Chapter, 6100 Rockside Woods, Independence, OH 44131.
