Cynthia Hoover Stalcup
long-time resident of Seattle, Washington and great-granddaughter of William "Boss" Hoover (founder of the Hoover Company), died from metastatic colon cancer, peacefully at home on April 28, 2017 at the age of 67.
She was daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Hoover and Eleanor Walker, and is survived by her husband, Daniel Stalcup. Cindy grew up in North Canton surrounded by numerous family members and friends. She was bright, blond, and blue-eyed. She graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. in 1967. She was president of her freshman class and of the student body senior year. She graduated from Cornell University in 1971, where she studied pre-med and later Greek and Latin with a history minor. After a first marriage, she moved to the Seattle area, settling in Bellingham, where she restored a number of houses, including a large Victorian. She married Dan Stalcup in 1985. Dan is an Asian art and antiques dealer, and Cindy took care of the business end.
There was a family gathering on Peaks Island, Maine at Pond Grove Cemetery in early August, to honor Cindy and reminisce. Many members of her mother's family are buried there. Dan flew in from Seattle. Catherine Hoover Petros, Cindy's cousin and best childhood friend, attended. Cindy was a dear and devoted daughter, sister, wife, aunt, great aunt, and friend, and is greatly missed.
