David Lee Humphrey Obituary
David Lee Humphrey 1950-2017
67, of North Canton, passed away at home Sept. 21, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a seven month illness. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Uncle. He was born to Lucille and Max Humphrey on Sept. 17, 1950 in Marion, Ohio and moved to North Canton at age two. He spent his childhood in North Canton and graduated from North Canton Hoover High School in 1968. After graduation, Dave joined the United States Marine Corps. He completed basic training at Parris Island in fall of 1968 and became a helicopter mechanic at the Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C.a with the HMM264 working on Cobra helicopters. He was honorably discharged in 1972. Leaving the Marine Corps in 1972, Dave returned to North Canton where he met his wife, Marion and the two wed in 1974. He returned to school in 1973 and graduated from Stark State College of Technology with an associates degree in electronics engineering technology. He had two children, Laura and David. He worked as a field technician for Northern Telecom repairing early computers, dictation equipment, and phone systems. After leaving Northern Telecom, he entered sales at Sears, first in computers, then appliances at the main Sears store in Belden Village, eventually retiring from Sears Hardware in Canton. He was a longtime member of the Canton, Ohio chapter of the Marine Corps League McKinley Detachment #277, serving as the adjutant and the American Legion Post 44. He was very involved with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program and many other league activities. Dave loved spending time with family and friends, NHRA drag racing, fishing, and family vacations at the beach. It is difficult to capture the essence of a person's life, accomplishments, and the impact that they made on those around them in just a few paragraphs. Those who knew and loved him would hardly find such a brief synopsis appropriate for Dave. He will absolutely be missed though not forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marion Humphrey of North Canton; daughter, Laura of North Canton; son, David, his fiancee, Chelsey and Dave's Granddaughter, Emilia of Louisville, Ohio; twin Brother, Bill and wife, Sandy Humphrey of North Canton; sister-In-law, Elizabeth Schick and her husband, Phillip of Columbus; mother, Lucille of North Canton; four nieces, a nephew, two great-nieces, and numerous cousins.
