'Jake' Hintz
79, beloved Husband, Father, and Friend passed away Wednesday Jan. 2, 2013 in Ormond Beach, Fla.. Jake was born Dec. 7, 1933 in Massillon, Ohio and was a Korean War Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marie; his mother, Alnora McFadden of Wooster, Ohio; children, Donnie, Mark (Diane), Cindy Conley (Tom), Dale Smith, Nancy Lee (Ken), David Smith (Rita), Dennis Smith (Darlin); extended family members, Pat Smith and Anna Briggs; brothers and sisters, Michael Ohara (Carol), Jimmy Ohara (Cheryl), Patty Consentino, Colleen Harry (Scott), and Kathleen Ohara; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Floyd; his son, Gregory Hintz, and brothers, Eugene (Gene) and Floyd Jr.
Jake served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was in the Naval Reserve. He retired after 33 years from Republic Steel to move to Florida and retired from a second career as a mechanic at Daytona State College. Jake was a sports enthusiast. He was a great fan of the Massillon Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and he was especially passionate about auto racing, with drivers Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. as his favorites. He was an avid bowler, with a personal best game of 299, and a member of USA Bowling for many years. He was the past president of the Massillon Bowling Association and the Daytona Beach Bowling Association. For most of his adult life, Jake had a motor home and traveled to sporting events with his sons and friends. After his marriage to Marie, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
Jake made a friend of everyone he met, especially if they were from Ohio. He loved to talk sports and was always ready for the next race or football game. One of Jake's pleasures was sharing his morning doughnuts with his dachshund Missy. Jake's long life touched many people and he will be missed and cherished by his family and many friends.
Viewing and memorial services will be Monday from 1p.m. to 3p.m. at Baldwin Brother's Cremation Society, New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168. 386-428-2424.
