Dorothy (Dottie) Smith
Dorothy J. (Thompson) Smith, 87, passed away at home on Friday. Born in Canton to the late Alfred and Minnie Thompson, Dottie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Herbert J. Smith. An avid competitor she was a passionate Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed travel, games, and most particularly golf, a sport which provided her the opportunity to make many life-long friends in both Canton and Pompano Beach Florida. A 1944 graduate of Canton South High School and former employer of RT. 62, Inc., H.J. Smith Construction, Boyle Midway and Republic Steel, Dottie was known as the Saturday lottery lady at Rt. 62 Drive Thru for many years.
Survived by three sons, Fred and Gisela Evans of Dallas, Texas, Herbert and Lisa (Piccari) Smith of North Canton and O. Jeffery (O.J.) and JoAnn (Schaeublin) Smith of Plain Township. Her other survivors include five grandchildren, Herbert Smith, Jennifer (Shelby) Santizo, Jillian Smith, Sabrina (Steve) Zoldey and Tiffany (John) Griffin. She also had seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Zachary, Evan, Brooke, Emaleigh, John and Grace who brought her great joy in recent years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin and brothers, Fred, Herm, Norm, Lowell and Ancil.
Friends and family are welcome to call on Monday, Feb. 24, at 5-7 p.m. at the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home at 5000 Everhard Rd NW in Canton 44718. Memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dottie's memory to Companions for Heroes.
