George Andrew Tamas Obituary
George Andrew Tamas
of Canton, passed away on July 28, 2017, the age of 83, while at the Affinity Medical Hospital in Massillon, Ohio after suffering from cardiac arrest.
He is survived by his loving wife Otilia Tamas of Canton; stepson Chuck Gherman and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren Samantha and Rob Gherman of Mount Vernon, Ohio; his aunt Mary Ardelean; cousins Danny and Cyndi Ardelean, their son Eric and his wife Lorrie and their daughter Madison of Canton, Ohio.
As a child growing up in Hungary during World War II, he remained proud of his Hungarian heritage and was an active member of the Hungarian American Club in Akron, Ohio for many years. After high school he pursued a college education and earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Miskolc University in Hungary. He retired from General Tire in Akron, Ohio after spending most of his career there. As an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians he was especially proud of their trip to the World Series last year and was always looking forward to next year.
Of the things that mattered most to George was his family. His wife Otilia was the love of his life as she was his. She frequently mentioned how blessed she was to have George as her husband as he was a smart, gentle and good man. Even before their marriage he was proud to have bought his step-son Chuck his first bike and thoroughly enjoyed his time with his grandchildren Samantha and Rob. In his last few years he dedicated himself to being the primary caregiver of his ailing wife.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ohio beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lauren Miller officiating.
