James E. Washington
69, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017. He was born in Canton on May 12, 1948 to the late Frank and Corean Washington and was a graduate of Canton McKinley High School where he played football. James proudly served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He retired from the Timken Company, where he was a roller bearing assembler. Following his retirement he worked at the Stark County MRDD for 10 years. He was a member of Christ the King Apostolic Church, where he was a deacon and usher. James was a wonderful cook and baker and was known for his pound cakes. He enjoyed going to football games and will always be remembered for having a kind heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lena Calhoun and his stepdaughter, Rhonda Gillom-Reeves.
He leaves his loving wife, Barbara Washington; children, James (Mercy) Washington Jr, Ariuel Washington and Joshua Washington; stepchildren, Leisa Cephas, Therese Gillom-Barnett, Ronald Gillom Jr and DeMarlo Rozier; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobbie Cox, Frankey Campbell, George A. Washington, Frances Austin, Geraldine Robinson, Peggy Toles and Kathrean McAllister; a host of nieces and nephews and best friends, Bill Taylor and Billy Johnson.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 p.m. at Christ the King Apostolic Church, 1004 4th St. NE Canton, with the Rev. Randall Winn officiating.
