James R. "Jim" Dine
75, entered through the gates of Heaven into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Jim was born Oct. 21, 1938 in Canton, Ohio to the late Donald M. Dine and Bernetta (nee Fockler) Shaub.
Preceded in death by his parents; stepfathers, Robert Roush and Forrest Shaub; and sister, Shirley Gaul. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Martha "Marty" Dine; sons, Jamie of Largo, Fla. and Robbie (Christina) Dine of Canton; grandchildren, Robbie A. Dine II of Canton, Janelle (Timothy) Davis of Frisco, Texas, Danielle and Chase Dine of Canton; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Roush of Illinois and Walter Dine of Canton; and sister, Gloria (Terrell) Wade of Canton. Jim attended Lincoln High School, leaving there to enlist in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged. At age 53 he earned his GED and then attended Massillon Baptist College and subsequently earned his Certificate of Bible Studies from Calvary Baptist Bible Institute in Eufaula, Okla. Jim was a gifted Gospel singer. In 1996 he began sharing his music ministry in nursing homes all over Northeastern Ohio. Also, many churches requested Jim to be a guest singer, both here and in other states. From 1995 thru 1998, Jim was song leader for Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Canton and 2004/2005 was song leader for Victory Baptist Church in Seven Springs, N.C. In the last few years, health problems curtailed his singing, but he still sang in the choir, performed special music and participated with the praise team at his church, Liberty Baptist Church of Massillon.
Funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Liberty Baptist Church of Massillon at 2349 Southway St. S.W., Massillon, OH 44646 with Pastor Tom Williams and Rev. Lew Thompson officiating. Family and friends may visit from 5:30-6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman on Friday March 7, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. Those wishing to send condolences or leave a special message may do so at the Reed online guestbook at:
