Joseph Antonio Lopez 1936 - 2017
age 81, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, born in Canton, Ohio on March 25, 1936, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017.
He graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1954 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a personnelman (PN) from 1954-1958. Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he attended Ohio University where he was a member of the championship football team in 1960. He graduated from Ohio University in 1964 with a bachelor's degree.
He started his professional career teaching at Port Washington High School in Port Washington, Ohio from 1964-1966. He then went on to teach at Madison Comprehensive High School in Mansfield, Ohio from 1967-1990. During his 26 year tenor, he taught Spanish, driver's education and coached football, basketball and girls' softball. He retired from teaching in 1990 where he moved to Venice, Florida to be closer to his children.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rebecca Ann (Howald) Lopez; and four children Manuel (Lynne) Lopez, Michael (Heather) Lopez, Richard (Lindsay) Lopez, Kristen (Jason) Lankford; and two siblings Elaine (Paul) Lambert and Raymond Lopez. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by both his father, Manuel Antonio Lopez and his mother Mary (Kerestzjuri) Lopez and his brother Richard Paul Lopez.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, students and all who knew him.
Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Life service that will be held at the Rose Hill Memorial Park chapel at 3655 Wales Road NW in Massillon, Ohio on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at 3:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Massillon, Ohio.
