“Together Again”
95, of Canton passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. He was born April 8, 1922 in Neffs, Ohio to the late Walter and Mary Gongola. Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England, France and Germany from 1942 to 1945. He had a passion for archery and taught many kids archery while volunteering for the Canton Police Boys Club. He volunteered at St. Joan of Arc festivals, where he operated the Odd Ball Game you could hear him say "Here We GO". After his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering in the basement and putzing around.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, Walter, Alfred, and Ed Gongola; sisters, Elsie, and Dorothy Gongola. Joseph is survived by his children, Lori Ann Gongola, Jeffrey (Arly) Gongola and David (Talinia) Gongola and several step grandchildren; siblings, Rosemary (WD) Duplaga, Patti Gongola, Kenny (Linda) Gongola, John (Bertha) Gongola, George Gongola and Pauline Konieczny. Family would like to thank Tammy Romanotto for being a loving caregiver and friend to Joseph.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel, 705 Raff Rd SW Canton, Ohio 44710 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept.7, 2017 starting at 10a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4940 Tuscarawas St. W Canton, Ohio 44708. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oak Dr. Ste. E Green, Ohio 44685.
