Katharina Leuenberger Obituary

Katharina (Käthy) Baltzly-
Leuenberger
Loving sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2014. Kathy touched many people with her love and acceptance. She was an amazing woman, positive in her outlook and deeply caring to all those around her with a wonderful sense of humor. Born on Jan. 8,1934 to Gottfried and Frida Leuenberger in Mammishaus, a little village in German speaking Switzerland, she was the oldest of three sisters and one brother. Her Mother passed away in 1943 and after a few years, her dad married Berty, who Kathy lovingly called Mueti (mom), and soon Kathy had two more brothers. After graduating from high school, she went to Paris to study French and then on to become a chef. After a brief time in the Swiss female army, she worked in Zuerich, Switzerland as a chef until 1962. Her love for exploring and traveling took her to Canton, Ohio where she worked for the Timken Family for many years. In 1982, she married William Baltzly. Together they traveled all over the United States, Canada and Switzerland, and shared the love of gardening and helping out their friends. Too soon, in 1988, Bill was taken from her. She kept busy in the Canton Swiss club, catering for friends and her clients, knitting and tending her garden. After a few years, she found another partner to travel with and with Don Nobis by her side, they traveled all over the United States and Switzerland.
Kathy leaves behind her sisters, Vreni and Elisabeth; her brothers, Ueli and Peter; several Godchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kathy was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, the United Swiss Americans, the Swiss Ladies Aid Society of Canton, the Arion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Swiss Alpenroesli and Saxon Karpathen Singing Societies.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of Kathy's life on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 West Tuscarawas Street, Canton, OH 44702.

Kathy was my adored "old" aunt from the so far away america. On one hand I'm looking forward to come over to her "Plaetzli" to meet all the people she cared so much. On the other hand it will be a sad travel. She passed away far to early. I'm missing her very much. Love Juerg & Ruth

Kathy was a very sweet person. She brought me candy home from one of her trips back to Switzerland.
I loved her, she always was smiling and cheerful.
I will miss her very much.
