92, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, in the IHM Health Care Center, Monroe, Mich. She had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. Sister Remigia was one of three children, two boys, and one girl, of Charles and Margaret (Dowley) Mraz. She was born June 22, 1921, in Canton, Ohio, and given the name Helen. Sister Remigia attended St. John the Baptist Elementary and High Schools in Canton. She became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1939, and received the religious name of Sister Remigia. Sister Remigia earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and a master's degree from the University of Detroit. She ministered in formal education, teaching an in administration, for 32 years at St. Michael, Monroe; St. Vincent, Pontiac; St. Patrick, Carleton; Annunciation, Holy Redeemer, St. Raymond, Christ the King, and St. Vincent, Detroit; St. Joseph, Erie; St. Joseph, Trenton; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Emmett; Holy Cross, Marine City; Sacred Heart, Roseville; Immaculate Heart of Mary High School, Westchester, Ill.; St. Mary, Akron; and St. Mark, Cleveland. In 1972 Sister Remigia began ministering as a nurse's aide at the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe. She worked as an aide; manager of aides and maids substitute; manager of personnel; and as a staff member. After nine years in this ministry, Sister Remigia began teaching at the IHM Adult Education Resource Center at St. Mary Academy, teaching English as a Second Language for seven years. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1988 and resided in the Health Care Center from 1999 until her death.
Sister Remigia is survived by a sister-in-law, Louise Mraz of Massillon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Lawrence.
Visitation will be held at the IHM Motherhouse, 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 2 until 7:30 p.m., with a Remembering at 3 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in the Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Schramm as presider. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery on the Motherhouse Campus. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe.
