Richard D. 'Dick' Cole
Age 68, of Perry Township, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Affinity Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 25, 1944 in Canton and was the son of the late William F. and Gertrude S. Cole. He graduated from Lehman High School in 1962 and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Akron. Dick was a proud Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War. Dick retired from Diebold in 1992. He was a diehard McKinley fan and a Perry football supporter. He enjoyed the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Don, Robert; and a sister, Edith Sweany. He is survived by his wife, Wendy with whom he celebrated 28 years of marriage on April 28, 2012; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Linda Cole, Alex and Tyler, all of Perry Township; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Pat Cole, Ed Cole, Johnny and Marilyn Cole; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Phillips and Dorothy and Chuck Kemp; sister-in-law, Jennie Cole; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Jacquelyn Thiese; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Margaret Thiese; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Brady and Aeris.
Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at Forest Hill Cemetery. Following the burial a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, 833 Carroll St., Akron 44305 with Pastor Deborah Wissner presiding. The family extends their sincere apprecation to Drs. Tamburro, Asfoura, Fahmy, Jim King, Alan Rudick, Pipoly, Divita Dialysis Center and the nursing staff of 9th and 10th floors of Mercy Medical Center. The family suggests that donations be made in Richard's name to Bethany Lutheran Church or to The , 1373 Grandview Ave., Suite 200, Columbus, OH 43212.
