Robert Luke Obituary
Robert D. Luke
was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on July 12, 2017. He was born in Massillon, Ohio Aug. 22, 1947 to Violet and Maurice Luke. Bob was employed at the Hoover Company for 30 years, and also spent time at McKinley Air Transport, Air Camis and Summit Air. He graduated from Glenwood High School and Kent State University.
He was a devoted and loving husband to Cyndi (Rhein) Luke, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Cyndi; mother, Violet Luke; children, Danielle (Matt) Whitehead, Britany (Jake) Morgan and Jon (Erin) Luke; siblings, Debbie (Ron) Gatchell and Sandy (Tim) Swanson;, granddaughters, Makayla and Maria Morgan, Emily Whitehead and Elliott Luke; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Maggie. He is preceded in death by his father, Maurice Luke.
Bob knew that he was first and foremost a beloved son of God and was active at RiverTree Christian Church. He cherished his family and particularly treasured spending time with his granddaughters, who adore their Papa. He was devoted to a life of service to others, particularly through Celebrate Recovery, Boy Scouts of America and Tiqvah Hands of Hope. He had a gift for mentoring others and valued the many relationships he developed, especially with Tau'Zon Stewart. Bob was always willing to help others and was often sought out for his thoughtful wisdom and advice. He was a kind and loving person who had a great enthusiasm for life! His caring spirit lives on in his children and grandchildren. Bob loved to travel, especially to the mountains and the ocean; some recent favorites include beach vacations with family, a cross-country train trip and his first visit to Disney! He was always inspired by nature and he loved hiking and exploring. Bob was a passionate and meticulous planner who could accomplish anything he put his mind to. He had his private and commercial pilot's license and was an airplane, auto racing and model train enthusiast. His favorite hobby was designing and working with his model railroad. One of his favorite scripture verses in recent weeks has been: “See, I am doing a new thing! I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19).
God's work has already begun in Bob's new life and we invite you to celebrate it with his family. They will receive friends Tuesday evening 5-7 pm at the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW and Wednesday evening 5-6 pm at RiverTree Christian Church, 7373 Portage Street NW. A Celebration of Bob's life will follow at the church starting at 6 pm on Wednesday and will conclude with a light dinner for all family and friends. Those wishing to sign the online guestbook may visit www.reedfuneralhome.com. Bob's family wants to thank the amazing staff at the Cleveland Clinic for the compassion, determination and incredible care they have shown to him and his family over the past few years. We love and miss you beyond words and look forward to the day we will see you again Bob...our amazing Husband, Dad, Papa, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend!
