89, passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home on Monday, July 3, 2017 after a long illness. Her stay there was enhanced by a caring staff for which her survivors have the greatest admiration and respect. Sara Louise (Hood) Tannehill was born in Bellaire, Ohio to Hugh and Helen (Cain) Hood on Dec. 19, 1927. Both parents and brother, Richard are deceased. Sara was married to William Tannehill in 1949, so completed nearly 68, years of marriage. Beside her husband, Bill she is survived by children: Terry Tannehill of North Canton, Darcy (Mike) Gillespie of Newton Falls and Scott Tannehill of North Canton; grandchildren, Ryan (Billie) Gillespie of Cortland, Ohio and Matthew Gillespie of Williamsburg, Va.; great grandchildren, Rylie and Landon Gillespie.
Sara was a 1946 graduate of Shadyside High School and attended Mount Union College in the Class of 1950. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and was active in its Alumnae Association for many years. She was also active in the Mount Union Women organization. Sara was one of the original docents at the National First Ladies Library in Canton and served for many years. She was a longtime member and officer of Questers International, which complimented her long-time interest in antiques and collection of antique dolls. Sara was a diligent fund-raiser for the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was a charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she served multiple terms as Deacon. She was also active in the Northminster Women's Association.
Sara, with Bill and family, was widely travelled throughout the United States and world-wide.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 237 W. Maple St. North Canton Ohio 44720 at 1pm with Pastor Richard Holmes officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until time of service. Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel is entrusted with the arraignments.
