Scarlett Lynn (Toney) Hunter
Age 74, of Magnolia died peacefully at home with her family present, after an extended illness. She was born June 24, 1944 in Ashland, Ky. and graduated in 1962 from Paul Blazer High School where she was a majorette in the band. Scarlett attended West Liberty University, Kent State University and Malone University. She was a teacher and tutor for Sandy Valley, Tusky Valley and Canton South Schools and worked as a self-employed florist and a manager of the Wilkshire Golf Store in Newtown Mall. Scarlett loved music and life; she sang in many Canal Days shows at Cibo's and sang and directed choirs at Magnolia Trinity Lutheran and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Churches. She was active in community activities, serving as a founding member of Canal Days in Magnolia and starting the Community Education program at Sandy Valley and the Valley Merry Christmas fundraiser for the program.
Preceded in death by her parents, Shirley (Fowler) Toney and Andrew J. Toney; sister, Barbara McClanahan; and brother, A.J. "Jack" Toney. Survived by her husband, James R. Hunter; son. Jeffrey G. Hunter; sister-in-law, Asenath Toney; brother-in-law, William McClanahan; and many nieces and nephews. Her body was donated for research.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sat. Oct. 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 4796 Crossroads Rd., Sandyville, OH 44671, with Pastor Stephen Patrick officiating. The family wishes to thank Mercy Medical Center Hospice staff for their wonderful care during her last days.
